The Central Criminal Court in Dublin has heard Richard Satchwell intends to appeal against his conviction.

The 58-year-old of Grattan Street in Youghal was today jailed for life for the 2017 murder of his wife Tina Satchwell.

In her victim impact statement, Tina’s half-sister Lorraine Howard said Satchwell had falsely portrayed Tina as a violent and coercive-natured woman.

Superintendent Ann Marie Twomey who led the investigation which discovered Tina’s body spoke to the media after Richard Satchwell was jailed

"We extend our deepest gratitude to the witnesses in this case and all of those who assisted us throughout the investigation. Your assistance formed an essential part of the journey. We would like to acknowledge the support of the wider community, especially those in Fermoy and Youghal. Finally, we the investigation team are happy that justice has been served for Tina"
