Investigations are ongoing in relation into a sink hole in Blackrock.

On Sunday two units of Cork City Fire Service attended at the scene in McGrath Park just before 7am, after receiving a call about a burst water main in the area.

Gary O'Donovan woke on Sunday to a sink hole in his drive way after contacting Irish water after spotting water running in the area on Saturday evening.

The family's car was almost swallowed by the sink hole.

The Irish Examiner reports that Irish Water are working with Cork City Council to ensure the site in McGrath Park is safe and to establish what additional works need to be carried out.

A structural engineer is due today to establish the full extent of the situation.
