Crosshaven has been plunged into mourning after the death of a young girl who died while swimming in Fountainstown on Tuesday evening.

Emili Roman was swimming with friends when she was swept away by a current and her body was recovered three hours later.
She would have been celebrating her 8th birthday today along with her twin brother Jeremy.

The local community have rallied around Emili's family ahead of her funeral which will take place at the Church of Our Lady and St John in Carrigaline on Saturday.

A silent vigil is being held in Crosshaven in the car park tonight at 8pm and a book of condolences will also be available for members of the public to sign.

Speaking to RedFM News local Councillor Audrey Buckley says the entire community are heartbroken

"It is very, very raw and especially you know, Templebreedy National School where the kids went to school, had people in yesterday speaking to them.  I just can't imagine her classmates asking their parents questions about how one of the twins won't be there anymore sitting in that seat in the classroom"
