Calls have been made for more incentives to be introduced in an effort to support and encourage small businesses around the country

The call has come from the owner of the Bandon based Poachers restaurant, who has also published a letter he wrote to the Finance Minister ahead of the planned re-introduction of the 13% VAT rate next month

Barry McLaughlin says businesses are being burdened with constantly increasing overheads and ever increasing compliance costs with no relief

Speaking to RedFM News, Barry says more supportive measures from Government are needed

"I think since Covid, there might be a lack of understanding as to how difficult the trading conditions are. Certainly it appears so with the policies because the businesses haven't recovered as well. And that's going on a while now. You would think they would be doing more supportive measures, than more more penal measures, which is what's coming down the tracks by the looks of things".
