That's according to East Cork based Cllr Danielle Twomey who raised the matter at yesterday's Council meeting .
The County Council Fire Service already helps the National Ambulance Service, but their services must be requested
The creation of a formal response service in support of the NAS responding to cardiac arrests is currently being discussed at a national level.
The Council heard yesterday that any assistance offered by the Council Fire Service must be subject to appropriate governance agreements.
Speaking to RedFM News Cllr Twomey says there is currently no combined co-ordinated response and she believes this type of coordinated communication could help to save many lives:
"There has to be a service level agreement put in place, but there is there's quite a lot of complications as well because in particular, the county council firefighters, they're all retained firefighters but not full time. So there is going to be complications for getting something like this off the ground, but I think it's doable. I think if there is a need within the national ambulance service that can be filled with by the fire service, then we should do this."
