The chairman of the Cork City Joint Policing Committee is calling for more vigilance to be exercised in Cork city

Fine Gael Councillor Damian Boylan was reacting to the news that Presentation Brothers College has written to parents of their students to advise them of reports of intimidation by gangs of youths

Parents were urged to consider where their sons are going after school and how they travel home

Speaking to RedFM News Cllr Boylan says he considers the city to be safe however he says if anyone spots an incident they should report it to the gardai immediately

"As a city councillor but also as a citizen of Cork city I want everyone to feel safe walking the streets of our city. To think  that somebody would feel unsafe, I would take that personally. The question is are we going to have a guard on every quiet street Cork city - we're not- but that doesn't mean that we all shouldn't be aware and be vigilant of what's going on and if any of us sees anything we should report it to the Gardai"
