A dedicated Garda base is needed in the city centre to tackle violent crime and anti-social behaviour.
That’s according to city councillors who plan to engage with Garda in relation to converting a council owned kiosk on Grand Parade into a Garda hub.
Speaking to RedFM News, City councillor Colm Kelleher says the base would operate similarly to the Garda community policing van which was situated in the city over Christmas:
"The community van was provided over I believe, a 6 week period in the city over Christmas. It did deter anti-social behaviour in the city. One of the vacant kiosks would be given to Gardaí to act as a hub essentially."
