Calls have been made for an alternative to a hike in commercial rates in Cork city to be explored
Cork Business Association says a rumoured 5% rates hike could lead to more businesses closing their doors
The business group says while it understands the rates are essential for the operation of the city it's time to examine other ways of raising the funding
President of Cork Business Association Dave O'Brien told RedFM News dialogue needs to be opened with the City Council
"What we need to see from the City Council is, what is the increased rates going to be spent on? And is there other viable options? Could central government fund this increase, as opposed to the businesses who are already struggling? So we just need some open communication with the City Council about the alternatives to increasing rates for businesses "
