Bus Éireann extend sympathies to family and friends of men who died in Monkstown bus crash

In a statement issued this evening, Bus Éireann have extended their sympathies to the family and friends of the two men in their 50s and 60s who died in the crash.

The company says the driver in his 50s was a long-standing and greatly valued employee who was based at the Capwell Depot.

Bus Éireann are putting measures in place to support employees impacted by the tragedy and say they are investigating the incident and are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities.

Bus Éireann CEO Stephen Kent said:

"This is a very tragic event. This is a terrible and sad day for everyone at Bus Éireann, and we are all heavy-hearted. Our thoughts are with the families and friends and communities affected by this loss. We would like sincerely to thank the emergency services for all their work and assistance today and our own employees who responded at the scene."

Gardaí in Togher are appealing for witnesses to the crash or anyone who was driving on Strand Road between 1:15pm and 1:45pm, especially motorists with dash cam footage, to contact them on 021-49471 20.
