The Chief Executive of Cork City Council says there's broad agreement that more gardai are needed in the city during daylight hours

Ann Doherty's comments come as there has been a notable rise in the levels of crime and anti social behaviour

Garda numbers at Anglesea Street Garda station, the largest station in the county, have dropped from 326 in 2018 to 273 last year

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Ann Doherty says she has raised the issue of more gardai with the Justice Minister

"I am the Chief Executive of the City Council but I'm not head of the police. We have an amazing Chief Superintendent in the city, and both Chief Superintendent Myers and I,  work really, really closely together in relation to addressing the issues, including advocating to both Drew Harris, through the Joint Policing Committee and also Minister McEntee - who both the Chief Superintendent Myers and myself met together"
