Patrick Murray from City View Wheels was speaking after a car crash yesterday evening resulted in a car flipping upside down on its roof.
No one was seriously injured in the incident, which had led to calls for the council to implement a one-way system and traffic calming measures on Ireland longest street.
Another local resident who contacted RedFM News about the crash said it happened just metres away from where his fiancé was walking and close to where a group of children were cycling their bikes.
Speaking to RedFM News, Patrick Murray from City View Wheels says it’s time something was done to improve things on the street:
"I'd love to see the city hall come over here and give me the other side of the coin because I've been here on Blarney Street for nearly 40 years. What's here now was here 40 ago and it worked 40 years ago, it worked 30 years ago. It probably worked 20 years ago, but it's not working now. The amount of cars and the size of cars on the street and they're traveling much faster. And yes, from a safety point of view and a congestion point of view, something radically needs to be done with this street."
