A protest is due to take place in Blarney this afternoon in a bid to save the town's Post Office.

The current post master at the Post Office is due to end their contract at the end of May, and An Post has not been able to secure a replacement postmaster despite advertising the position three times.

The deadline for applications is this coming Thursday.

Socialist Party TD for Cork North Central Mick Barry is calling on residents to make their voices heard.

"The closure of a Post Office can result in the death of a village, and I'm pleased to see that the people of Blarney have decided to campaign to save their Post Office.

"I hope that they come out in big numbers today to make the strength of their feeling abundantly clear."
