Apple has been given the green light for a major expansion at it's facility on the northside of the city.

The new four storey building will be constructed on land at the Hollyhill Industrial Estate adjacent to it's existing business.

The new building will be able to accommodate 1,300 extra workers.

When the expansion was first mooted in May, the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar described the move to RedFM News as a real endorsement of Cork and Ireland as a prime location for leading global technology firms to work.

Apple currently has around 6,000 employees in Cork across three sites at Hollyhill, Lavitt's Quay and Horgan's Quay.
