Apple expanding its operations in Cork to accommodate an extra 1,300 employees

Global tech giant Apple's applied to Cork County Council for planning permission for what it describes as brand new state of the art facilities.

The expansion in Hollyhill in Cork will have capacity for 1,300 employees. Apple currently has around 6,000 employees in the city.

Vice President of the company's European Operations, Cathy Kearney says they are thrilled to accelerate their investments here as they grow their team and expand the campus.

Taoiseach Michael Martin says it is evidence of the company's strong commitment to Cork and endorsement of Ireland as a prime location for leading global technology firms to grow.

IDA Ireland's welcomed the announcement, with the CEO Martin Shanahan pointing out Apple's Cork site has made a substantial beneficial contribution to the company's global success.
