Appeals for Rory Gallagher's iconic guitar to remain in Ireland

The Lord Mayor of Cork is adding his voice to the calls for Rory Gallagher's iconic guitar to remain in Ireland.

The famous Fender Stratocaster will be going up for auction in London in October, with an estimate of €1.1 million

The guitar was bought in Crowley's Music Store, Cork in 1963 and has been on display in Ireland at various times however no permanent home had been found for it

Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Dan Boyle says the guitar needs to remain in Ireland and it's cultural importance recognised

"I've already had conversations with people at government level about the State investigating the possibility of how the guitar might be acquired. I've been told that agencies of the State will make contact with Rory Gallagher's estate to see what's possible, whether an agreement to do something, can be achieved. And I'm confident that it might be"
