A new restructuring plan by An Post will see staff at sorting offices in Midleton and Ballincollig being re-located to the city and Macroom respectively.
The plan, which is being drawn up in consultation with the Communications Workers Union, will see the closure or consolidation of more than 20 local district sorting offices mostly in Cork and Mayo.
The programme which could take up to 18 months to complete, aims to secure a sustainable future for the company.
Speaking to RedFM News Sean McDonagh of the Communications Workers Union says while the plan will mean changes for An Post workers he does not envisage any job losses:
"In the situation of a simple relocation, essentially what will happen is the existing operation will transfer into a new premises with other people. So they'll be housed under one roof. And that will probably mean the same level of jobs if maybe slightly more, in fact, because of the travel time over and back, so I wouldn't visit any changes in job terms from that."
