An addiction treatment centre has seen a rise in women around the country using its services in Cork.

Coolmine Therapeutic Community says alcohol is the most common substance used by clients in the South West with 524 people from Cork and Kerry using the service in the first three months of this year.

Speaking to RedFM News, Coolmine Regional Services Manager Stephen Cashman says close to half of people assessed were women:

"We're also seeing a number of women seeking support consistently year on year, of the 525 individuals we assessed in the first quater of this year, 210 of them were female which I suppose is definitely an increase and we're seeing this across the country."
