A public meeting to discuss assisted dying is being held in the city next week

Irish Doctors supporting Medical Assistance in Dying say a person dying from a terminal illness should have the choice, which they say would mean the person would not have to endure unnecessary suffering.

An Oireachtas Committee on assisted dying was formed at the start of the year and will begin their hearings on the 13th of June.

Countries including Spain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia have introduced legislation to allow terminally ill people have access to medically assisted dying.

Speaking to RedFM News, spokesperson for the group and Cork GP Dr Andy Lyne says they want to have a respectful and helpful conversation around a patient’s end of life wishes:
