A UCC PhD researcher has been set up a free toy library to reduce the impact plastic toys have on the environment.

Families can log on to from today to advertise and organise exchanges of toys in communities across the country.

Researchers say the toy industry is the most plastic intensive industry in the world.

Speaking to RedFM News, founder of the The Toy Library, Giorgia Anile says reusing toys is much more efficient:

"Toys are a plastic intensive industry, so they're difficult items to recycle. We believe that what's most important is to try and reuse as much as possible. We think reusing is much more efficient than recycling, so that's the idea behind that".
