A former European election candidate has been charged with harassing a Garda.
46-year-old Ross Lahive of Church Street, Shandon Street appeared before Cork District Court today
Detective Sergeant Christopher Cahill said Ross Lahive made no reply when the charge of harassing a Garda between the 9th of October 2022 and 6th of February 2025 was put to him.
Det Sgt Cahill said the accused had allegedly engaged in a ‘campaign of harassment’ which involved the filming and posting of videos to social media.
Sgt John Kelleher asked Ross Lahive why he felt it appropriate to post videos related to the case on social media last night.
Mr Lahive replied ‘I felt it was my constitutional right under freedom of speech’.
Defence solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher applied for legal aid and said his client is getting €250 a week through a Community Employment Scheme.
Ross Lahive was bailed on a number of conditions and is due to appear before the court again on the 20th of Nov when he is due to indicate a plea.
