A Bantry GP Says Loss Of Life Is Inevitable If Bantry Hospital Is Downgraded

It comes as fears continue to grow that the hospital will be downgraded to a model 2 hospital

That would mean it would lose its acute emergency access service.

The South/South West Hospital Group has claimed there are no plans to downgrade the hospital however locals remain unconvinced and say they need a concerte promise in writing this will not happen.

Hundreds turned out at a public meeting in January to voice their concerns however it's understood no HSE representatives was in attendance.

Bantry based GP Dr Paul O'Sullivan told RedFM News there's no consideration being given to how far away Bantry is from other hospitals, and if a critical patient needed to be transferred elsewhere it would be a battle against time to save their life:
