Nearly 6,000 children in the Cork and Kerry region missed crucial child development checks over the past five years.
The situation is particularly bad in parts of Dublin, where one in five children missed out on the 9 to 11 month check-up last year and the HSE say there are similar issues in pockets of North Cork
The assessment makes sure a child is reaching crucial milestones.
Nationally around 70,000 children missed a crucial child development check over the past five years, according to figures from the HSE.
