20 year old jailed for going to Cyprus instead of giving evidence

A 20 year old from Knocknaheeny has been jailed and fined for going on holiday to Cyprus instead of giving evidence at the trial of a teenager who committed violent disorder at the murder scene of Cameron Blair in January last year.

Craig O'Donoghue, of Killala Court, Knocknaheeny, was sentenced to two months in prison and fined €1,000 for contempt of court.

The Echo reports that the trial begun at the and of May, and O'Donoghue was scheduled to give evidence on June 2nd.

However he boarded a flight to Cyprus on the 27th of May, which had been booked 11 days earlier and on his return on July 2nd he was arrested at Dublin Airport, and has been in custody since.

Craig O'Donoghue was set a headline sentence of three months by Mr Justice David Keane, which was reduced by a month after considering mitigation, which included a letter written by O'Donoghue of his profound sympathy for the Blair family.
