Two men have been arrested following an arson attack on an elderly couple's home in Ballincrokig.
The couple in their 8'0s were rescued from the house near Kilcully which was extensively damaged on the 24th of April.
The men, both in their 30s, were arrested in Dublin yesterday as part of the investigation and are currently being detained at a Garda station in Cork city.
In a statement to RedFM News, Gardaí said:
"Gardaí attached to the Serious Crime Investigation Unit in Cork continue to investigate an incident of arson and criminal damage to residential property, Cork, on the 24th April 2025.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Gardaí and fire services responded to a fire at a residence in Dublin Pike, Ballincrokig. An elderly couple in their 80s were rescued from the house, which was extensively damaged.
As part of this ongoing investigation, two individuals were arrested during an operation in the Dublin area on 6th May 2025. During the operation, detectives from Cork searched two residential properties in Dublin.
Two men, both aged in their 30s, were arrested and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Cork City.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow."
