14 people died on the roads during the Garda Christmas road safety campaign.

That includes three people who have died in the first three days of 2024.

There were over 4-thousand collisions during the campaign, with 82 causing serious injuries.

The Road Safety Authority revealed that 15 people died on Cork roads last year an increase of two on the 2022 figures

Garda Chief Superintendent Jane Humphries says the high number of deaths is horrific

"The reflection of that statistic is dreadful but it would be a combination of working with our partners to look at engineering - there  is far better design of our roads, of the vehicles that we drive. Education - it is important that road safety stays to the forefront of everyone's mind - right from the very young at junior school up to ourselves as adults"
