Everyone should be interested to know what happened at the Bessborough mother and baby home.

That’s according to an advocate for victims of mother and baby homes as the 10th commemoration for those who lost their lives in the Blackrock institution approaches.

The group which will gather this Sunday at 2 o’clock are calling for a full search of the site, as it’s still not known where hundreds of children who were born in the home which ran from 1922 to 1998, are buried.

Speaking to RedFM News, Carmel Cantwell whose brother died after her mother spent 4 months in Bessborough says they will continue to fight for justice:

"It would be devastating not to know what happened to hundreds of children. As Cork people we should all be interesting to know what happened to them. All of them very special and the mothers went through such terrible grief. I know my own mother wasn't allowed to be at her own baby's grave. She's still fighting for justice at the age of 82."
