The 101st anniversary of the killing of Denis Spriggs by British Crown Forces will be marked today at 1 o'clock.

The annual commemoration will begin on Blarney Street near Sunday's Well National School - with a parade to the memorial plaque.

Spriggs was a 19-year-old plasterer, as well as a member of the IRA's C-Company, and lived on Strawberry Hill with his parents.

He was arrested from his parents’ home by British forces, who shot him dead at the convent gate on the top of Blarney St., shortly thereafter.

He is buried in the Republican Plot at St Finbarr’s Cemetery.
