1 in every 2 empty Council house in Cork city has been boarded up for longer than 12 months
Freedom of Information figures show 495 Council houses are boarded up across the city and county - with the majority - 345 of them - based in the city
Sinn Fein's Thomas Gould says the figures demonstrate a shocking failure by Government in funding local authorities
Speaking to RedFM News Deputy Gould says the practice is scandalous at a time when young children are being forced to grow up in hotels
"We could actually solve the families who are on emergency accommodation if the government only gave Cork City Council the money to do it. When you think of the trauma that's been caused to children and families growing up in B&B's when there are empty houses. People are looking at empty houses in their community at a time when there are hundreds of houses left rotting in the city"
