A Cork GP says people should keep an eye out for symptoms in the coming weeks following the death of one adult with a confirmed case of listeriosis in Ireland.

9 other cases of the infection have been confirmed amid an "extensive outbreak" of listeria at Ballymaguire Foods - which produces ready meals for Tesco, Supervalu, Centra and Aldi.

Symptoms of the illness can include fever, nausea and headaches.

The Food Safety Authority has recalled over 200 types of ready-made meals, and a full list of affected products is available on its website.

Speaking to the Neil Prendeville Show, Dr John Sheehan in Blackpool says the illness can take a while to present:

Very often people think they don't have it because it's not like a bug floating around it can take a while before it presents and then suddenly you can get very sick."
