The small number of extra beds being allocated for eating disorder patients around the country is being described as disappointing by CARED Ireland
Nineteen extra beds are to come on stream over the next five years with the development of three regional adult Eating Disorder Inpatient Centres
Paula Crotty founder of CARED Ireland, which represents parents and carers of people with eating disorders, says the allocation doesn't meet current demands
She says there is an urgent need for more services to help people who need treatment now
"We know what it's like on the ground, we as a group are hearing what's happening with the over one hundred and seventy people that are in our support group, and we know the services are not all there for everybody. And to Minister Mary Butler, all these plans are fine for three or five years, and that's fantastic, but what about the people now?"
