The National Council for the Blind in Ireland has issued a call for volunteers to join its Connection Network Service.
It says it needs people to engage with blind service users across the Country, using free calls every week as Covid continues to cause isolation.
National Council for the Blind spokesperson June Tinsley says training will be provided for people who come forward.
"All volunteers will be fully trained and supported, and they will be asked to make weekly phone calls to a number of our service users, those phone calls can last a few minutes, or, or longer depending on how the relationships develop. So ballpark you're talking about, maybe, a two hour commitment per week from volunteers."
