Born in Derry back longer than he'd care to remember, Ruairí moved to the People's Republic when he was still just a nipper, although he still claims to be from Derry when it looks like they have an outside chance of winning the All Ireland.

A sport fanatic, "Hags" as he's known to his mates had dreams of becoming an astronaut, a Formula One driver and a teacher! Ruairí ended up calling up to Cork Campus Radio while doing an Arts Degree in UCC, hoping to land a spot on the airwaves. Here Ruairi developed a fanatical interest in radio, going on to present the breakfast show, the current affairs programme, the Irish language programme, and the sports show, Póc Off, in between launching his own rock show called Distortion.

With interest in the Arts degree out the window and his passion for radio fuelled, Ruairí enrolled on the Radio Broadcasting course in Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, obtaining a FETAC qualification.

It was around this time that Ruairí started at Cork's RedFM, initially making tea ("too milky!" was a common complaint), before moving up the ranks as coffee maker, production assistant, part time news reader, full time news reader, producer and now presenter of the Big Red Bench.
