Get to know the Red Rooster's Gemma!

Gemma Murphy

Growing up Gemma was the chatty, slightly giddy, extremley clumsy type of lil’ girl that never knew when to shut up! Some would say she was born to talk…so a career in radio suits her down to the ground. Growing up Gemma was always intrigued by the magic of radio, “Working at a radio station is like attending a playschool for grown ups…but its not all fun and games there is work to be done after all!"

Gemma was born in Waterford and grew up in Tramore as she remembers, "Back in the day it was great, those days the sun actually shined all summer long and your summer holidays from school felt like an eternity."

In 2002/03 Gemma spent two years at the College of Commerce studying Advertising and P.R. But when her visa for the Peoples Republic expired she moved to Wales and spent a further 3 years studying in Carmarthen and Cardiff where she completed a Degree in Media and Advertising and  a Post Grad in Broadcast Journalism.

Having watched enough Rugby Games, Gemma returned to her native Waterford and began working Beat 102103 and WLRFM.

These days Gemma is hoping to become an adopted member of the Peoples Republic of Cork. When Gemma’s not on air she enjoys hanging out with good people, cooking nice food, watching documentaries and listening to great music.
