Special Homeless Report

On the coldest night in November Neil joined Street Café for Cork’s Homeless on Patrick street. There are people sleeping in doorways, down lanes, on our quay walls, in our parks and in squats. There are many more in emergency accommodation, families in hotels, hostels and B&Bs. Neil met with service users from all walks of life and what led them to being without a home. He met Timmy who had been homeless for over 25 years and his friend Jay from Afghanistan. He met with volunteers who give those without a home hope. On a trip to Penny Dinners there were stories of how life can change in just two pay cheques and with another young man who believes there is no future for him. This Christmas for many there is no place like home but for far too many there is no place to call home.
