Taoiseach Praises Tainaiste Following Her Resignation

The Taoiseach says Frances Fitzgerald is a good woman who has left office without getting a full and fair hearing.

The Tanaiste has stood down following her handling of the garda whistleblower controversy.

Frances Fitzgerald said she is putting the national interest ahead of her career and is also avoiding a potentially destabilising general election.

Leo Varadkar has told the Dail he’s accepted her resignation with regret.
