Government say it's important to provide flood defences where they can
Meanwhile calls have been made for the Government to make it compulsory for insurance companies to provide flood cover at a reasonable price, once the defence mechanisms have been installed
It is important not to lose sight of the reason behind the proposed Flood Relief works in Cork.
That's according to the Minister for the OPW Sean Canney who says the Lower Lee scheme will provide protection for families and businesses living in "at risk" areas in the city.
However, the Save Cork City Group who are opposed to the current €140 million project, say the plans will not guarantee those previously affected by flooding will be able to get flood insurance.
Speaking to RedFM News Minister for the OPW Sean Canney says every effort must be made to ensure these families are protected in the future.
