Ballincollig County Councillor Expresses Frustration At Inclusion In City Remit

A County Councillor says he's disappointed that Ballincollig will now be included under the City Council's remit.

A compromise deal was reached over plans to extend the city boundary lines which will see the population of the city grow by 120,000 people.

Under the deal hammered out by the Implementation Ovesight Group Ballincollig, Blarney, Glanmire and Cork Airport will all become part of the city as proposed by the MacKinnon Review Group.

However, Little Island and Carrigtwohill are to remain as part of the county.

The City Council has welcomed the propsal while the County Mayor says the developments provide a solid basis to move forward on a joint collaborative basis.

It's understood the Chair of the IOG, will now deliver his report to the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy.

However speaking to RedFM News County Cllr Derry Canty says the fight isn't over and he'll be taking to the streets if that's what the people of Ballincollig desire:
