R. Kelly Denies Abuse Allegations In First Interview Since Being Charged
R. Kelly agreed to an interview with CBS This Morning to discuss recent charges brought against him for sexual abuse.
The R&B star is denying all allegations that he has sexually abused women and underage girls saying "I didn't do this stuff. This isn't me".
The 'I Believe I Can Fly' singer pleaded not guilty in Chicago to 10 counts of aggravated criminal sex abuse last month. The alleged incidents were reported to have taken place between May 1998 and January 2010.
Kelly spent three nights in prison while coming up with $100,000, 10% of the $1 million bail set in court.
In excerpts from the interview with CBS, the emotional star said he was "fighting" for his life. He also remarked that the allegations against him are merely rumours saying: "Whether they're old rumours, new rumours, future rumours, not true."
Kelly was previously accused of sexual misconduct in 2002 following the discovery of a sex-tape of a male having sex with a 14-year-old girl. Kelly was acquitted following a trial.
Speaking about historical allegations brought against him, Kelly said "People are going back to my past, OK? That's exactly what they're doing."
"They're going back to the past and they're trying to add all of this stuff now to that. To make all this stuff that's going on now feel real to people."
The new charges against the singer follow an explosive 6-part documentary named 'Surviving R. Kelly' released in January where numerous women alleged they were sexually, mentally and physically abused by the star.
