The government has chartered a plane to pick up tourists such as Andrew Cotter from Mitchelstown and his girlfriend Marie Barry from Conna, however many are facing long journeys to make it to the capital Lima where the flight is leaving from.
Speaking to RedFM News, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney is hopeful a flight will leave Lima in the next 48 hours:
