RNLI And Irish Coast Guard Issue Safety Advice For Coastal Visitors During COVID-19 Outbreak

They are reminding people of the importance of social distancing and avoiding non-essential contact with others

They say while coastal areas may be seen as providing an opportunity to enjoy fresh air and exercise, while adhering to the government's guidance, they can also present  dangers of their own and the two organisations are asking people to ensure they follow essential water safety advice.

The advice for people exercising on or near the water is as follows:

o Take care if walking near cliffs - know your route
o Check tide times daily
o If going afloat, carry a means for calling for help and always wear a lifejacket and carry a VHF Radio
o Check your equipment is in good working order
o Be aware of the conditions and your capabilities and only enter the water if it is safe to do so
