Pharmacists urge people not to panic buy

Pharmacists are urging people not to panic buy, should further restrictions be implemented to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.

Medicine distributor and wholesaler United Drug has had to take on more staff and other measures to deal with demand.

Irish Pharmacy Union General Secretary Darragh O'Loughlin says wholesalers struggled to keep up with demand from pharmacies.

"Wholesalers have limited the supplies of some items into individual pharmacies, and deliveries have been running late.

"We're hopeful that if people don't stockpile and don't put the pharmacies under too much pressure, the wholesalers should be able to catch up with demand and pharmacies should ultimately be fully restocked shortly."
