Traveller Family In Fermoy Have A Lucky Escape After Caravan Fire

Firefighters battled the blaze at the McDonagh's caravan, where they live with their four children, at 1am

A traveller family in Fermoy had a lucky escape after their caravan went on fire in the early hours of this morning

The McDonagh's caravan, where they live with their four children, has been parked at a picnic site on the Cork road for the past two years

Shortly after 1 o'clock this morning the family awoke as the front of the caravan had started to fill with smoke
They managed to raise the alarm and the fire service responded and managed to bring the blaze under control in three quarters of an hour

The cause of the fire is unknown but it's believed it may have started in the chimney

No-one was injured in the blaze but the family say firefighters say they had a very lucky escape
