The ESB have revised upwards the number of power outages.

We've been advised here in RedFM News that 2,900 people are off the grid in Cork.

Crews are being dispactached to the Ballincollig/Carrigrohane area where hundreds are without power. 

Macroom and bandon have also been badly hit. 

Bishopstown and Douglas were just as registered with ESB as affected areas in the past few minutes. 

All ESB networks crews are prepped and ready go and all offices are manned. Additional resources are on standby mobilised

A tree is blocking the Cork/Coachford Rd (R618) at Inniscarra

Reports of a telephone pole and wire, hanging across the road between Kanturk & Castlemagner

Update 8.12

The following statement has been released to RedFM News by Cork University Hospital.

 

In light of the Severe Weather Warning (Level: Red) and keeping with National advice -  CUH has cancelled all non-essential activity for Monday 16th October.

 

The Hospital Emergency Department will remain open, but CUH asks that only emergency patients attend the hospital.

 

Visitors are also asked to delay their attendance for the duration of Code Red warning.

 

Update 8.07am 

The ESB have advised us here in RedFM News that there are now a small number of outages and reports of no supply.

Crews are being dispactached.

500 are off the grid in the Ballincollig/Carrigrohane area and a small number in Macroom/Bandon areas. 

All ESB networks crews are prepped and ready go and all offices are manned. Additional resources are on standby mobilised

Update 6.34am 

A Red Weather Alert is in force for the entire country with Hurricane Force Winds expected to hit every county including here in Cork where all Schools, Colleges and Childcare facilities will be closed.

The Government says NO unnecessary travel or other outdoor activities should be undertaken - EVERYONE is advised to stay at home. 

I've been in touch with Angelsea St Garda Station who say there are currently no reports of any incidents however that is expected to change very shortly as wind speeds are picking up. 

The current wind speed is 42 km/h. However wind gusts of 117kph haev been recorded at Fastnet Lighthouse this morning.

Cork City Council meanwhile is urging the public to keep up to date with weather warnings. They've suspend all public
services at the following locations: Cork City Hall, Public libraries, Civic Amenity site at Kinsale Road, Swimming pools, Public Parks, Cemeteries.

Emergency Crews will be on standby throughout the day and City Council staff are being deployed to deal with the expected issues that will arise as a result of the severe weather.

Meanwhile Cork County Council's Crisis Management Team convened on a number of occasions yesterday and council staff will be on standby during the course of the day.

The following Council facilities will be closed today: Council libraries, Civic Amenity Sites, CCC Swimming Pools (Dunmanway, Mallow, Fermoy) Various tourist facilities - e.g. Spike Island, Michael Collins House, Camden Fort Meagher

Bus Éireann will not operate any of its nationwide services - including the Expressway network meanwhile Iaranrooid Eireann say there are some restrictions on some lines, all trains running except Limerick Jn to Waterford & Nenagh branch. 


Again the advise to everyone is to stay at home.
