Request For Extra €12 Million For Cork Event Centre Criticised
Calls for an extra €12 million in State funding for Cork's Event Centre have been slammed.
BAM's managing director Theo Cullinane addressed the City Council last night and outlined how building costs have jumped from €53 to €65 million due to the internal redesign of the 6,000 seat Events Centre
The rising costs were blamed on the fact that the original plan was for a smaller venue and once Live Nation came on board the promoter said it would need a larger facility to make the Events Centre commercially viable
The Council was told that if the extra funding was sanctioned soon, construction work could begin by September
Speaking to RedFM News AAA Councillor Fiona Ryan says she believes BAM came to the meeting with an ultimatum and she has no confidence in the project
