Plans For The Remediation Of 11 Hectares At The Former Irish Steel Plant Are At An Advanced Stage 

RedFM News has learned that preparation for a planning application at Haulbowline has been advanced


Plans for the remediation of the remaining 11 hectares at Haulbowline where the former Irish Steel plant once stood are at an advanced stage 

In a statement issued to RedFM News the Department of Agriculture says detailed site investigations have been undertaken, and a remediation solution for the former steelworks site has been identified 

Preparation for a planning application has also been advanced

The news comes after the Department moved to reassure the public that there are no legacy public health risks associated with the remediated East Tip where Haulbowline Island Park is due to open shortly 

An engineered structure has been installed around the perimetre of the site and an engineering cap and water draining system is in place which the Department says brings to close the history of exposed waste at the site
