More Than One In Three Schools In Cork Are Within 400 Metres Of A Fast Food Outlet 

Calls are being made for the introduction of "no fry zones" to stop new takeaways from locating near schools in the future 


The call has come from the Chairwoman of the Cork food Policy Council Janas Harrington who was speaking ahead of the launch of an interactive Cork Food map aimed at helping form future policy in relation to improving Cork's food environment  

1 in 4 primary school children are overweight or obese and this has lead to pressure on the Government to address the rising problem through the introduction of initiatives such as the sugar tax which came into effect nearly two years ago 

Speaking to RedFM News Janas Harrington says obesity levels are not improving so it's time proactive steps were taken Leeside to address the issue
