Invitation Issued To Pope To Visit Cork Next Year
Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Fota House and Mallow racecourse have all been proposed as possible venues for a papal visit.
A request has been made for Pope Francis to include Cork in his itinerary when he visits Ireland next August.
The Irish Examiner reports that Cork County Council is writing to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Papal Nuncio to Ireland to invite Pope Francis to the region.
The Pontiff's visit is part of the World Meeting of Families.
Spike Island was also suggested - however logistics could prove problematic to get the pontiff onto and off of the former jail site.
