Disappointment As Cork County Council Gives Go Ahead For Cobh Statue of Jack Doyle

Plans to place a erect a statue of the boxer have been delayed over allegations of domestic violence in his later years.

A Cork county councillor believes women - whom the Council previously supported - are being let down after it gave the green light to the erection of a statue in Cobh to former boxer, and Hollywood star Jack Doyle

Plans to place a statue of the boxer in the East Cork town have been delayed over allegations of domestic violence in his later years.

Cork County Council held an emotive debate on the issue, which Cllr Marcia D'Alton strongly argued against,  before finally giving the go ahead for the statue

None of the allegations against Jack Doyle have been proved and he died in 1978

However speaking to RedFM News Cllr D'Alton said she believes the planned statue honouring Jack Doyle flies in the face of the Council's commitment to supporting women..
