Cork TD denies he opted for a Garda lift to Dublin airport instead of a taxi

Dara Murphy is under fire after it emerged he was driven by Fermoy Gardai to Dublin Airport after his vehicle broke down outside Mitchelstown.

The European Affairs Minister has denied that he opted for a garda car to transport him to Dublin airport instead of a taxi.

Dara Murphy is under fire this morning after it emerged that he was driven by Gardai from Cork to Dublin Airport after his car broke down on the motorway outside Mitchelstown nearly a fortnight ago while he was on his way to a meeting in Brussels.

The Cork TD says that there was adequate cover at Fermoy Garda station to allow the guards to make the journey and he says he was informed that it was quiet at the time.

A taxi driver from Mitchelstown claimed on the Neil Prendeville Show this morning that he was contacted on behalf of the Minister in the early hours of the morning and when he told the caller that the fare would be €300 he declined the service.

Dara Murphy has denied this claim to RedFM News and says he even offered to drive the taxi himself:
