Cork Mum Makes Plea For Help To Fund Cancer Treatment Abroad
A young Cork mother whose battle with stage 4 cancer led to her tongue being removed - has made an impassioned plea for help to fund her cancer treatment abroad
37 year old Caroline Sweeny from Macroom was diagnosed with cancer on her tongue in June 2016 and despite the removal of half her tongue and chemotherapy and radiotherapy the cancer returned six months later.
Her medical team advised her that her entire tongue needed to be removed and following that surgery she made a remarkable recovery, however a fortnight ago she was told that a new tumour has emerged on her neck and spots have been detected on her lungs.
Her doctors say that due to the aggressiveness of the cancer, they are ony offering her palliative chemotherapy at Marymount Hospice.
Caroline and her family have examined alternative options abroad and this is her only option as no more can be done for her in Ireland.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Caroline says she's fighting to live as she needs more time with her two daughters - 8 year old Jamie and 3 year old Zara .
